Urban Form

Aleppo has a unique urban form. It is a compact and mixed city; historic and modern, it has high densities, a high growth rate, and many of its neighborhoods have a dense combination of functions.

This section summarizes our work on the urban form of Aleppo City.

We present here a brief analysis of the existing physical situation in the city, then, based on this analysis, we present our vision of Aleppo in 2025. Our vision applies five universal urbanism principles to the specific context of Aleppo City. These principles are:

  • Phasing and space reservation
  • Multifunctional open spaces
  • Polycentric development
  • Integrated urban mobility
  • Identity, proximity, density and mixture
